Haines, Alaska – November 2011
The American Bald Eagle is a very exciting animal to watch; expressive, athletic, and regal. Once a salmon is pulled from the river by an Eagle, challenges are made by other birds to take over the feast. As the minutes go by the fish is usually consumed by several different Eagles. Given the competition for food, as soon as a piece can be removed, an Eagle usually flies off to perch in a tree to finish eating in peace. This beautiful bird was working on the fish’s head.
That reminds of a fish head soup that was prepared fresh for us at a sustainable trout farm, in the village of Latuvi (near Oaxaca Mexico). Fortunately, I did not have to fight a Bald Eagle to have my lunch, nor retreat to a tree to eat in peace.
