Jack London was quite a character. His political views were controversial, his adventures legendary, his photographs remarkable, and writing obviously prolific. The photo below was taken at his beloved ranch in Glen Ellen, California, one of my favorite spots. Later in his career he kept writing at such a pace mostly to fund the development of this land.
Jack London State Historic Park is one of many California parks scheduled to close this summer due to budget restraints. I’ve seen evidence to suggest that closing the parks will actually cost more than keeping them open, due to the expense of keeping the public safe and cleaning up vandalism, etc. Movements are underway to preserve Jack’s homestead. I do hope they succeed, this is an incredible place of cultural heritage.
