Bio

Raised in Indiana and educated in Detroit, my current base camp is Sonoma County California. I frequently travel North America – from Oaxaca to Alaska, the California Coast to Quebec – cameras and peanut butter in tow.

An injury as a teenager nearly took the vision my left eye. After three surgeries and plastic insert in my eye socket, my sight was saved, and ever since I’ve spent my life studying and practicing the visual arts.

After learning traditional darkroom techniques in college (College for Creative Studies, BFA Design, summa cum laude) I remained an avid photographer while employed as a visualization consultant in numerous design studios and ad agencies. Working with the finest designers and art directors honed my aesthetic and business sense, but eventually I was called to photography as a career and a way of life.

I have been fortunate to photograph birthing whales off the coast of Baja, Holy Week in Colonial Mexico, running the white water on the Rogue River, the Bald Eagles of Alaska’s Inside Passage, and the vineyards and Arabian horses of Sonoma. Serving both commercial and editorial clients, I look for partners passionate about adventure, travel, animals – this one wild and beautiful life. (Client and publication list here).

…And yes, that’s how my name has always been spelled. Think of all the ink I’ve saved over the years not having to write that c.
